compression garment fitting
Wearing a compression garment is used to prevent and treat common issues including edema, lymphedema, varicose veins (venous insufficiency), and post surgical swelling.
Compression Garments apply an external pressure to help move fluid out of an involved area and return to the circulatory system. In some conditions, swelling increase over time and can result in skin degradation, risking ulcerations and infection. Wearing compression consistently is essential to treat and prevent these risks.
It is very important to have the correct fit with a compression garment. This ensures the maximum benefit from the garment. An incorrectly fitting garment can be ineffective or make symptoms worse. Comfort, effectiveness and practicality are considered when choosing the right garment for you.
A doctors referral is required for medical grades of compression. Grades are measured in mmHg (millimeters of mercury)
15-20 mmHg — not medical grade, no prescription required. Used as a preventative measure, for sport, tired legs, or travel.
20-30mmHg — Class 1 medical compression, prescription required. Used for mild edema.
30-40mmHg — Class 2 medical compression, prescription required. Used for moderate edema.
40-50mmHg — Class 3 medical compression, prescription required. used for severe edema, especially lower limb.
50-60mmHg —Class 4 medical compression, prescription required. Used for severe edema in lower limb.
Most garments are ‘off the shelf’ and can be fit and ordered from a sizing chart. There are times when a custom or ‘made to measure’ garment is required.
During your fitting appointment, you will be measured and an appropriate style to suit your needs will be discussed. Your garment may need to be ordered and once it arrives, we will assure its proper fit and comfort. Follow up calls or appointments can be scheduled to discuss any issues you may be having with fit, comfort and taking on and off of the garment.
Our goal is to provide compassionate, one on one service to achieve the best results possible. We will work together with you to achieve the most effective and comfortable garment for your needs.
mastectomy breast form fitting
A breast prosthesis is an artificial breast form. Wearing the appropriate breast form can make a big difference in how you feel every day. You may choose to wear a breast form while you decide if you want breast reconstruction, or you may decide to use a breast form instead of having reconstruction.
To help you identify your unique needs, it is important to consult with a trained, certified mastectomy fitter.
Breast forms are made in different shapes, sizes, both full and partial. They can be worn in a pocketed garment, or as a self adhesive form with a regular garment. It is designed to look, weigh, and move like a natural breast. When properly fitted they provide balance for good posture and prevent back and neck issues.
In some cases, if part of a breast has been removed, or asymmetry exists, a partial form, or ‘shaper’ can be used to bring balance and symmetry.
When preparing for your fitting visit, wear a form fitting top and a comfortable supportive bra. Your fitting will be in a private, one on one and compassionate environment. My goal is to find for you, the most comfortable and best fit form for your needs.
